For some months now, Trinitarians and
various volunteers from other faith communities have been preparing and serving a hot breakfast each Saturday morning for
some of the poor who live near the church and for some of St. Petersburg’s sizeable homeless community. How does it
work?
Groceries are purchased near the end of the week.
First to arrive on Saturday are those who will cook. Until just recently, another one of the first to arrive is a homeless,
family-less man with a damaged heart valve. He did his part by sitting and wrapping napkins and plastic eating implements.
Near the end of March, he had heart surgery and his first visitor at Morton-Plant Hospital was Pastor Snapp!
Most of the "regulars"
have gotten to know one another and have developed a sense of community. The volunteers and the patrons have gotten
to know one another and to express interest and caring. One guest plays the piano by ear. Pastor Snapp leads in prayer. Sometimes
there are things to give away.
After the meal, clean-up begins, both in the kitchen and in Redeemer
Hall. Guests volunteer and wipe clean each table and the seat of each of the chairs. The chairs are then turned upside down
on the table and the volunteers wet mop the whole room.
